Pacbyte

Compression

Lossless and lossy compression technologies from Pacbyte.

Lossless Compression

Pacbyte uses a number of methods to losslessly compress files. These include pattern substitution (the traditional method), increasing the size of a file by introducing specific patterns, and then compressing the file to achieve a higher level of compression. Pacbyte also uses predictive methods as well as byte substitution based on bit indexing.

The results are for H264 ABR encoded files, an average 20% lossless compression. For RGB files, lossless compression resulting in files smaller than JPEG lossy compression. Similar results are achieved for a wide range of data types.

There is no compression used in Netpump Data.

Lossy Compression

Lossy compression is usually only applied to audio, video and image files as data loss relates to a user's acceptance of the quality of a file with the lost data.

Pacbyte has a lossy image compression technology that delivers higher quality images with a higher level of compression.
